Short Morning Prayer Before Work
Start Your Workday with God

Most people start their workday with their phone, their email or their to-do list. But the most productive, most favoured and most spiritually protected workers in Scripture started their day with God. This morning prayer before work is short enough to pray in five minutes but powerful enough to change the entire atmosphere of your workday. Pray it before you leave home. Pray it in your car. Pray it quietly at your desk before you open your laptop. Just pray it. Because what God authorises, no one can stop.
Colossians 3:23 · Psalm 90:17 · Proverbs 16:3 · Daniel 6:3 · Deuteronomy 28:8
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23 to 24 (NIV)
Colossians 3:23 completely reframes what work means for the believer. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for human masters. The moment you understand that your employer is not your ultimate boss, that your clients are not your ultimate providers and that your salary is not your ultimate source, work becomes a completely different experience. You are not going to work for your company this morning. You are going to your assignment -an assignment given to you by God, carried out in the presence of God and evaluated ultimately by God.
That understanding changes how you pray before work. You are not just asking God to help you survive the day. You are asking the Author of your assignment to go ahead of you into the environment where that assignment is being carried out. You are asking the One who created your skills and abilities to anoint them for maximum effectiveness. You are asking the God who controls the hearts of kings like rivers of water to turn the hearts of your supervisors, your clients and your colleagues in your favour.
Psalm 90:17 is one of the most powerful workplace prayers in all of Scripture: may the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us -yes, establish the work of our hands. The word establish means to make permanent, to make effective, to make lasting. When God establishes your work, it produces results that outlast your effort, influence that outlasts your presence and impact that outlasts your time in that role. That is what you are praying for every morning before work.
Proverbs 16:3 gives you the strategy: commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans. Commit your work to God before you begin it and He will make it succeed. Not might make it succeed. Will. This is not a vague spiritual aspiration. It is a covenant promise. And these morning prayers before work are how you activate it every single day.

HOW TO USE THESE PRAYERS BEFORE WORK These 25 prayer points are organised into 5 sections covering every dimension of your workday. You can pray all 25 in 10 to 15 minutes each morning before you begin work. For a quicker option, scroll to the 60-second morning prayer before work at the end of this guide. Pray these prayers specifically: name your workplace, name your supervisor, name your business, name your clients. Generic prayer gets generic results. Specific prayer accesses specific covenant promises. And if you are facing a specific crisis at work, a difficult colleague, a threat of redundancy, a business challenge, add fasting to these prayers and expect God to move decisively on your behalf.
OPENING PRAYER -BEFORE YOU BEGIN Father, before I go to work today I come to You first. This job belongs to You. This business belongs to You. These skills belong to You. I commit this workday entirely into Your hands. Go ahead of me into my workplace right now. Prepare the atmosphere. Position the people. And let everything that happens today bring glory to Your name and advancement to Your Kingdom purposes in my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
SECTION 1: COMMITTING YOUR WORK TO GOD Proverbs 16:3 and Psalm 90:17 and Colossians 3:23 to 24
ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Proverbs 16:3 contains one of the most underused strategies for professional success in all of Scripture: commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans. The Hebrew word for commit here is galal, which literally means to roll something heavy onto someone else. You are not carrying your work plans this morning. You are rolling them onto God. You are transferring the weight of your deadlines, your targets, your projects and your responsibilities from your own shoulders onto the shoulders of the One who holds the universe in place. That transfer does not make you passive. It makes you partnered. You still work. You still apply yourself fully. But now you are working as a partner with the God who establishes, not as a lone agent who is hoping to survive.
Prayer Points 1 to 5
1. Father, I commit this workday entirely to You according to Proverbs 16:3. I roll every project, every deadline, every meeting and every responsibility onto Your shoulders. I am not carrying this day alone. I carry it as Your partner and I trust You to establish everything I put my hands to, in Jesus’ name!
2. Lord, establish the work of my hands today according to Psalm 90:17. Let what I produce today be effective, lasting and impactful. Let my effort not be wasted, my time not be squandered and my contribution not be overlooked. Establish it, Father. Make it permanent, in Jesus’ name!
3. I declare that I am working for the Lord today, not for men according to Colossians 3:23. This changes everything about how I approach my work. I bring my best because God deserves my best. I give my full effort because my ultimate employer sees everything. I work with integrity because I represent the King, in Jesus’ name!
4. Father, let Your wisdom govern every task I engage with today. Where my knowledge runs out, let Your revelation begin. Where my training does not cover, let Your Spirit instruct. I am not limited to what I know. I have access to the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), in Jesus’ name!
5. I place every pending assignment, every unresolved challenge and every upcoming deadline in Your hands right now. You know what each task requires. You know where the solution is. You know who needs to be involved and what approach will work. Lead me through every task today with supernatural clarity, in Jesus’ name!
SECTION 2: PRAYING FOR DIVINE FAVOUR WITH PEOPLE AT WORK Genesis 39:21 and Proverbs 16:7 and Esther 2:17
ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Genesis 39 records one of the most remarkable workplace stories in the Bible. Joseph was a slave, a prisoner and a foreigner with no natural advantage. And yet verse 21 records: the Lord was with him; He showed him kindness and granted him favour in the eyes of the prison warden. Three times in Genesis 39 the text says the Lord was with Joseph. And every time it says it, something impossible happens. The same God who granted Joseph favour with every person who held authority over him is the same God you are praying to this morning. Favour with people is not a personality contest. It is a covenant gift. Pray it in.
Prayer Points 6 to 10
6. Father, let the favour of the Lord rest upon me today in every interaction I have at work. Let my supervisor see something in me that they cannot explain and cannot ignore. Let my colleagues be drawn to work with me. Let my clients want to return to me. Grant me Joseph-level favour in my workplace, in Jesus’ name!
7. I pray for supernatural favour with every person who holds authority over my career today. My manager, my director, my employer, the board, the decision makers. Let Proverbs 21:1 be activated over their hearts: as rivers of water, God turns the heart of the king wherever He wishes. Turn their hearts toward me in favour today, in Jesus’ name!
8. Father, let even my enemies at work be at peace with me today according to Proverbs 16:7: when a person’s ways please the Lord, He makes even their enemies to be at peace with them. Let every person who has been working against me find reasons to cooperate with me instead, in Jesus’ name!
9. I pray for the right connections at work today. Let me encounter the specific people that my destiny and my career require me to know. Let every divine appointment of today be recognised by me and responded to correctly. Let no God-arranged meeting be missed through distraction or busyness, in Jesus’ name!
10. Father, let me be a blessing to every person I work with today. Let my presence create a better atmosphere. Let my words build and not tear down. Let my attitude be one that reflects the character of Christ in a workplace that desperately needs it. Let me be the Joseph in my workplace, in Jesus’ name!
The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did. Genesis 39:2 to 3 (NIV)
SECTION 3: PRAYING AGAINST WORKPLACE ENEMIES AND EVIL PLOTS Isaiah 54:17 and Psalm 35:1 and Esther 7:10
ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Not every workplace is friendly. Some environments are filled with competition, jealousy, manipulation, political manoeuvring and outright wickedness directed at people who are anointed and advancing. Psalm 35:1 records David’s prayer for exactly this situation: contend, Lord, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. David did not try to fight his workplace enemies in his own strength. He brought their case to God and asked God to fight on his behalf. Isaiah 54:17 is your covenant guarantee in every hostile work environment: no weapon formed against you shall prosper and every tongue that rises against you in judgement, you shall condemn. Pray this in faith, not in fear.
Prayer Points 11 to 15
11. Father, I decree that no weapon formed against me at work today shall prosper according to Isaiah 54:17! Every plot against my position, every plan to embarrass me, every scheme to take credit for my work and every conspiracy to remove me from my role, I cancel them all by fire, in Jesus’ name!
12. Lord, contend with those who contend with me in my workplace according to Psalm 35:1! I will not fight this battle in the flesh. I bring every workplace enemy before You right now and I ask You to fight on my behalf. Let Your hand be against every hand raised against me, in Jesus’ name!
13. I cancel every evil report, every false accusation and every slanderous word that anyone plans to speak against me today. Let every lying tongue be silenced. Let every false witness be exposed. And let the truth about my work, my character and my contribution be evident to everyone who matters, in Jesus’ name!
14. Father, let every trap that has been set for my professional life today be a trap that its setter falls into instead. Like Haman who was hanged on the gallows he built for Mordecai (Esther 7:10), let every evil device prepared for me today turn against the one who prepared it, in Jesus’ name!
15. I pray the fire of God around my position, my salary, my benefits and my professional reputation today. Let no one successfully tamper with what God has given me. Let no one be able to take what God has established. My career is under divine protection from this morning forward, in Jesus’ name!
SECTION 4: PRAYING FOR EXCELLENCE, WISDOM AND PRODUCTIVITY Daniel 6:3 and Exodus 31:3 and Nehemiah 6:9
ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Daniel 6:3 records that Daniel distinguished himself among all the other administrators and satraps because he had an excellent spirit. He was not just good. He was excellent. And his excellence was not the result of superior natural talent. It was the result of superior spiritual connection. Daniel was a man of prayer (Daniel 6:10) and his prayer life produced an excellence in his work that no naturally talented competitor could match. Exodus 31:3 reveals God’s capacity to supernaturally fill a person with wisdom, understanding, knowledge and all kinds of skills. The same Spirit who gave Bezalel creative excellence, who gave Daniel administrative excellence and who gave Solomon architectural excellence is the Spirit who dwells in you. Ask Him to work through your specific skills today.
Prayer Points 16 to 20
16. Father, fill me with the spirit of excellence that was on Daniel today! Let me stand out not through self-promotion but through the undeniable quality of my work. Let my output today be so good that even those who do not like me cannot fault it (Daniel 6:3), in Jesus’ name!
17. Lord, fill me with Your Spirit of wisdom, understanding, knowledge and skill according to Exodus 31:3. Let supernatural intelligence govern my work today. Let creative solutions come to me. Let the right approach to every problem reveal itself clearly. Let God-level wisdom flow through my human skills, in Jesus’ name!
18. Father, let me be productive today beyond what my natural capacity would produce. Let the blessing of God on my work multiply my output. Let two hours of God-directed work produce what would normally take six hours without His blessing. Establish the work of my hands (Psalm 90:17), in Jesus’ name!
19. I pray for supernatural focus and concentration today. Let no distraction, no social media, no unnecessary interruption and no energy drain steal the time and attention I need for my most important work. Like Nehemiah who prayed and worked, let me pray and work with maximum effectiveness today (Nehemiah 6:9), in Jesus’ name!
20. Father, let innovation and creative ideas flow to me today. Let me bring solutions to problems that have been lingering. Let me see angles that others have missed. Let me produce work that makes people ask: how did they do that? And let the answer always point back to the God who fills His people with wisdom, in Jesus’ name!
SECTION 5: DECLARING GOD’S BLESSING OVER YOUR INCOME AND CAREER Deuteronomy 28:8 and Psalm 75:6 to 7 and Proverbs 22:29
ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Psalm 75:6 to 7 dismantles one of the most common misconceptions about career advancement: promotion comes neither from the east nor from the west or from the south. What the psalmist is saying is that the source of your promotion is not your human manager, your networking ability, your qualifications or even your performance reviews. It is God. He is the One who lifts one up and puts down another. That does not mean you stop working hard. It means you add prayer to your hard work and trust God to produce the promotion that your hard work alone cannot guarantee. Proverbs 22:29 adds the human dimension: do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings and not before obscure men. Skill combined with God’s favour produces the kind of career that goes beyond what skill alone could achieve. Pray for both this morning.

Prayer Points 21 to 25
21. Father, send Your blessing on everything I put my hands to today according to Deuteronomy 28:8! Let the blessing of God be tangible and visible in my output, my results and my contributions. Let what I touch today bear fruit that remains, in Jesus’ name!
22. I declare that my promotion comes from God according to Psalm 75:6 to 7! I am not at the mercy of any human being’s decision about my career. God holds my promotion in His hands and He releases it at exactly the right time. I trust His timing and I praise Him in advance for what He is about to do, in Jesus’ name!
23. Father, let my skills make room for me and bring me before great men according to Proverbs 22:29. Whatever I am skilled at doing for Your glory, let it open doors this year that my personality, my connections and my CV alone could never open. Let my God-given abilities be my greatest professional asset, in Jesus’ name!
24. I declare that my income is increasing! The ceiling that has been on my earnings is being lifted. God is opening new channels of income, new opportunities for increase and new platforms for my gifts to be compensated. My salary, my fees, my commissions and my business revenue are all growing in this season, in Jesus’ name!
25. Father, I seal this morning prayer with a declaration of complete confidence in You as the Lord of my career. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!
60-SECOND MORNING PRAYER BEFORE WORK Father, I commit this workday to You. Go ahead of me into my workplace right now. Cover me with the blood of Jesus. Grant me favour with every person I encounter. Fill me with wisdom and excellence for every task I face. Cancel every plot against my career and let no weapon formed against me prosper. Establish the work of my hands and let everything I do today bring glory to Your name. In the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
| 🔥 MORNING DECLARATION FOR WORKERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS SPEAK THIS BEFORE YOU BEGIN EVERY WORKDAY I am going to work today as a representative of the Most High God! My skills are anointed. And everything I put my hands to today is blessed by the covenant-keeping God who never fails His people. I work for the Lord today. And that makes everything different. In the name of Jesus Christ. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Should I pray before work even if I am not facing any specific problem at work? Absolutely. Preventive prayer is more powerful than reactive prayer. Daniel prayed three times a day throughout his entire career, not only when he was facing the lion’s den. His consistent prayer life is what produced the consistent favour and excellence that made him indispensable to every king he served. Praying before work when everything is fine builds the spiritual covering and divine favour that will sustain you when things are not fine. Do not wait for a crisis to start praying for your career. I work from home. Do these prayers still apply to me? Completely. In fact, working from home requires an even stronger prayer covering because the boundaries between work and home life are more porous, distractions are more numerous and the accountability structures of a traditional workplace are absent. Colossians 3:23 does not specify a location: whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord. Whether your office is a corner of your bedroom or a high-rise building, the same God who establishes the work of your hands is as present and as effective in your home office as anywhere else. I am a business owner, not an employee. Are these prayers relevant for me? Entirely relevant and perhaps even more so. Every prayer in this guide applies equally to employees and business owners. The difference is that as a business owner, you are also praying on behalf of your team, your clients and your entire business ecosystem. Adapt each prayer to include your business: where the guide says position, think market position. Where it says supervisor, think client or investor. Where it says salary, think revenue. The God of Joseph who made everything he touched succeed is the God of your business. What if I pray before work but still have a terrible day? A terrible day does not mean God was not present or that prayer did not work. Psalm 23:4 says even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, You are with me. God’s presence is guaranteed. Some of the most significant growth, most important lessons and most divine appointments of a career happen in difficult days. Pray before work not to guarantee a smooth day but to guarantee that God is in every moment of the day, however that day unfolds. My workplace is very hostile and toxic. Should I leave or pray? Both questions deserve honest engagement. Prayer is always the starting point because only God can reveal whether He is calling you to stay and be His Daniel in that environment or to leave and move to the next assignment. But before making any career decision driven by workplace difficulty, saturate that decision in prayer, seek wise counsel and wait for God’s clear direction. Some of the greatest career breakthroughs in Scripture happened in the most hostile environments: Joseph in prison, Daniel in Babylon, Nehemiah in the Persian court.
You Are Not Going to Work Alone
Genesis 39:2 is the secret behind Joseph’s extraordinary career: the Lord was with Joseph and he prospered. Not the Lord helped Joseph occasionally. The Lord was with Joseph. Consistently. Continuously. In the pit, in Potiphar’s house, in the prison and in the palace. The presence of God was the one constant in a career full of disruption and injustice.
That same presence goes with you to work today. Not because you are perfectly qualified. Not because your workplace is perfectly positioned. But because you have committed your way to the Lord and trusted in Him. And when the Lord is with a person in the workplace, what Genesis 39 describes begins to happen: everything they do, the Lord makes it succeed. Everything. Not some things. Not the big things. Everything.
Pray before you go. Pray when you arrive. Pray at your desk before you open your inbox. And go through your workday with the quiet, unshakeable confidence of a person who knows that the most powerful Being in the universe showed up to work with them this morning. Because He did.
