40 Prayer Points Against the Spirit of Death and Untimely Death
Has there been a pattern of sudden death in your family? Have you felt a specific spiritual threat to your life or the lives of those you love? The Bible is clear: God’s plan for His people is long life, not premature death. These 40 prayer points will break every assignment of death and establish divine covering over your household.
Psalm 91:16 · Proverbs 10:27 · Isaiah 54:17 · Job 5:26 · Exodus 12:13

| “With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Psalm 91:16 (NKJV) |
God’s covenant promise to His people is not a short, interrupted life. Psalm 91:16 records one of the most direct promises in all of Scripture: “With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.” Proverbs 10:27 declares: “The fear of the Lord adds length to life.” Exodus 23:26 promises that no one will miscarry or be barren, and God will give the fullness of their days. The pattern is consistent throughout Scripture: the covenant people of God are promised length of days, fullness of life, and death at the right time – not before.
But the enemy has a contrary agenda. John 10:10 records Jesus identifying the enemy’s three primary assignments: to steal, to kill, and to destroy. The spirit of death is one of the enemy’s most aggressive weapons against families, destinies, and generations. It operates through accidents, sudden illness, violence, premature disease, and generational patterns of untimely death that repeat across family lines.
The good news is that Jesus came to dismantle that assignment. Hebrews 2:14 says Jesus took on flesh and blood so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of death – that is, the devil. The power of death over the believer has been legally broken at the cross. But legal victory must be applied in prayer. These 40 prayer points are that application – the enforcement of the victory Christ purchased over every assignment of untimely death against your life and household.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
| Is the spirit of death a real spiritual entity? Yes. Hebrews 2:14 identifies the devil as the one who holds the power of death and describes Jesus as breaking that power through His own death. Revelation 6:8 identifies Death as a personified rider on a pale horse with authority over a quarter of the earth. 1 Corinthians 15:26 calls death the last enemy to be destroyed. While we must be theologically careful not to attribute more authority to the spirit of death than Scripture assigns to it, the Bible is clear that there is a real spiritual dimension to death and that it operates under the authority of the enemy until Christ’s final victory. Does praying these prayers guarantee I will never die? No. These prayers are specifically against untimely, premature, and enemy-assigned death – not against the natural death that comes at the end of a full, God-ordained life. Job 5:26 describes the ideal: coming to the grave in full vigour, like sheaves gathered in season – at the right time, after a full life. The promise of Psalm 91:16 is long life and satisfaction, not immortality in this body. These prayers enforce your covenant right to the fullness of the days God has ordained for you, not the days the enemy is trying to cut short. What do I do when a godly person dies young despite prayer? This is one of the most painful questions a believer faces and deserves honest engagement rather than easy answers. The sovereignty of God and the reality of the enemy’s activity both exist simultaneously in Scripture, and not every early death is the enemy’s doing. Acts 7 records the martyrdom of Stephen – a man full of the Holy Spirit – as a death that was within God’s sovereign purposes even as it was an act of evil. God’s sovereignty does not eliminate the legitimacy of praying for protection. But it does require humility about the limits of our understanding when the answer to our prayers differs from what we asked for. How do I pray for someone who is currently facing a life-threatening situation? Pray specifically, boldly, and persistently. Cite the specific covenant promises: Psalm 91:16, Psalm 118:17, Exodus 23:26. Plead the blood of Jesus over the specific person and the specific situation. Bind every spirit of death and untimely death by name. Release angels (Hebrews 1:14) to minister to and protect the person. Fast and combine these prayers with fasting for sustained, intense intercession. And maintain faith while submitting to God’s sovereignty. Mark 11:24: believe that you have received it. James 5:15: the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well. Can these prayers be prayed for unbelievers? Yes. Intercessory prayer for the protection and life of an unbelieving family member or friend is both biblical and powerful. You stand in the gap for them. Job was described as offering sacrifices on behalf of his children regularly as a preventive spiritual covering (Job 1:5). Your faith and your prayer creates a spiritual covering over people connected to you even when they do not yet share your faith. Pray for their protection specifically and simultaneously pray for their salvation, since the greatest protection from death is the life that Christ gives. |
Life Is Your Covenant Right
Deuteronomy 30:19 records one of the most direct choices God ever placed before His people: “I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” The choice of life is not passive. It is active. It is prayed. It is declared. It is enforced through the application of the blood of Jesus over every area of life and death.
You are not a helpless victim of whatever the enemy has planned. You are a covenant child of the Most High God, covered by the blood of His Son, with angels assigned to your protection, and a God who has promised to satisfy you with long life. That promise is yours. These prayers are the key that enforces it. Pray them consistently, confidently, and with the bold faith of a person who knows that the One who holds the keys of death and Hades is on their side.
