Joshua 3:5 was spoken on the eve of one of the most dramatic moments in Israelite history: the crossing of the Jordan River into the Promised Land. The people had been wandering for forty years. The inheritance was finally in sight. And Joshua’s instruction before the most important week of their national life was not a military briefing. It was a spiritual one: consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.
That word consecrate means to set apart, to sanctify, to deliberately separate from the ordinary for the purposes of the holy. When you begin your Monday in prayer, you are consecrating your week. You are setting it apart from the ordinary experience of seven days that happen to you and transforming it into seven days that God moves through purposefully. You are telling God before Monday begins: this week belongs to You. Do amazing things in it.
Lamentations 3:22 to 23 declares that the mercies of God are new every morning. But if they are new every morning, they are especially significant on Monday morning because Monday morning is the first morning of a brand new seven-day window of divine opportunity. Everything that went wrong last week is in the past. Everything that God has prepared for this week is still ahead. Monday morning prayer is how you open the new week the right way: with gratitude for what was, with faith for what is coming and with a deliberate consecration of every day that follows.
Isaiah 43:19 is God’s personal declaration over every new week: see, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? God is always doing something new. | ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: In the Old Testament, consecration was a physical ritual involving washing, separation and the setting apart of persons or objects for holy use. In the New Testament, Romans 12:1 calls believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your true and proper worship. The consecration of your week is not a religious ritual. It is a spiritual act of surrender in which you take the seven days that God has given you and deliberately place them back in His hands for His purposes. Psalm 90:12 prays: teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. When you number your Monday as a day that belongs to God, you begin to use it with the kind of wisdom that produces results that outlast the day itself. Consecrate your week this morning. Prayer Points 1 to 5
1. Father, I consecrate this new week to You right now! Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week belongs to You before it belongs to any human schedule, any deadline or any demand. I set these seven days apart for Your purposes, Your glory and Your agenda, in Jesus’ name!
2. Lord, like Joshua commanded Israel before the Jordan crossing, I consecrate myself for the amazing things You are about to do this week (Joshua 3:5). I separate myself from last week’s failures, last week’s disappointments and last week’s distractions. I enter this week fresh, consecrated and expectant, in Jesus’ name!
3. Father, teach me to number my days this week so that I gain a heart of wisdom according to Psalm 90:12. Let me not waste a single day this week. Let me not squander any hour that could have been used for Your Kingdom, my growth or my assignment. Give me divine time management this week, in Jesus’ name!
4. I commit every plan I have for this week to You according to Proverbs 16:3. My work plans, my family plans, my financial plans, my ministry plans and every goal I have set for these seven days, I roll them all onto Your shoulders. Establish what is of You and redirect what is not, in Jesus’ name!
5. Father, let this be a week of divine progress. Not running around busy but making no real advancement. Not activity without outcome. Let every effort of this week produce something that moves me measurably closer to the destiny You have ordained for my life, in Jesus’ name!

| ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Monday dread is one of the most common emotional experiences in the modern world. The feeling of heaviness that descends on Sunday evening, the resistance to getting out of bed on Monday morning, the sense that the week ahead is an obstacle course rather than an opportunity, are all manifestations of a spirit that has no business being in the life of a believer. 2 Timothy 1:7 is God’s definitive answer to Monday dread: God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. The spirit of dread, Monday anxiety and the sense that this week will be too much, is not from God. It is a spirit. And it is subject to the authority of the name of Jesus. Romans 8:15 adds: the Spirit you received does not make you slaves so that you live in fear again; rather the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. You are a child of God. You do not face Monday as a slave dreading a hard master. You face Monday as a son or daughter going into a week that your Father has already prepared for you. |
Prayer Points 6 to 10
6. I cancel every spirit of Monday dread, Monday heaviness and Monday anxiety over my life right now! God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). I receive the sound mind and the divine power to approach this Monday with confidence and joy, in Jesus’ name!
7. I declare: the Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1). I am not afraid of this week! I am not intimidated by what it holds. I face Monday as a child of God who knows that nothing in this week is bigger than my God, in Jesus’ name!
8. Father, I refuse to carry last week’s weight into this new week! Whatever went wrong last week, whatever was left unresolved, whatever disappointment or failure is trying to follow me into Monday, I leave it at the foot of the cross. This week is new. His mercies are new. I am starting fresh, in Jesus’ name!
9. I break the power of negative Monday associations over my life. The belief that Mondays are hard, that weekends are too short and that the week ahead is something to survive rather than to live, I cancel those lies. Monday is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24), in Jesus’ name!
10. Father, fill me with supernatural enthusiasm and energy for this new week! Let me wake up on this Monday morning with the kind of energy, clarity and excitement that can only come from You. | ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Numbers 6:24 to 26 is the blessing that God Himself commanded Aaron to speak over the children of Israel. It is not a human blessing. It is a divinely designed declaration that God said would put His name on the people and cause Him to bless them. When you speak this blessing over your week on Monday morning, you are not making up nice words. You are using the exact words God designed for the purpose of releasing His blessing on His people. Deuteronomy 28:3 to 6 expands the picture: blessed shall you be in the city and in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb, your basket and your kneading trough. Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out. God designed a blessing that covers every dimension of life in every location and in every direction of movement. On Monday morning you speak that comprehensive blessing over every day of the week ahead. |
Prayer Points 11 to 15
11. I speak the blessing of Numbers 6:24 to 26 over this entire week: the Lord bless me and keep me! The Lord make His face shine upon me and be gracious to me! The Lord turn His face toward me and give me peace! Let this blessing rest on every day of this week from Monday to Sunday, in Jesus’ name!
12. I declare: I am blessed when I go out and blessed when I come in this week according to Deuteronomy 28:6! Blessed in my workplace, blessed in my home, blessed in my car, blessed in every meeting and blessed in every transaction. The blessing of God follows me everywhere I go this week, in Jesus’ name!
13. I declare that I shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water this week according to Psalm 1:3. Whatever I do shall prosper. My roots go deep into the Word of God and my fruit shall be evident to everyone around me. This is a week of visible, undeniable blessing on my life, in Jesus’ name!
14. Father, let something new spring up in my life this week according to Isaiah 43:19! Let a new opportunity appear that was not visible last week. Let a new door open that was closed last Monday. Let a new chapter begin in an area of my life that has been stuck. I am perceiving what You are doing and I am ready to receive it, in Jesus’ name!
15. I speak blessing over my Tuesday, my Wednesday, my Thursday, my Friday and my weekend right now! Not just Monday but the entire seven-day gift God has given me. Let each day carry its own specific divine appointment, its own fresh mercy and its own unique opportunity for me to experience the goodness of God, in Jesus’ name!
| SECTION 4: PRAYING FOR FAVOUR, BREAKTHROUGH AND NEW BEGINNINGS Psalm 5:12 and Ruth 2:10 and Esther 5:2 |
| ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Ruth 2:10 records one of the most beautiful moments of unexpected favour in all of Scripture. Ruth was a foreign widow with no natural claim to favour in Israel. She went to glean in the fields like the poorest of the poor. And the owner of the field, Boaz, gave her access, protection, provision, water, food and specific instruction that nobody else received. When Ruth asked why she had found such favour, Boaz pointed to her character and her faithfulness. But behind Boaz’s favour was the hand of God who was orchestrating a story that would place this foreign widow in the lineage of the Messiah. Favour does not always look like what you expect. It sometimes looks like a door opening in an unlikely place with an unlikely person at an unlikely time. Pray for favour this Monday and keep your eyes open all week for doors opening in places you did not plan to look. |
Prayer Points 16 to 20
16. Father, let Your favour surround me like a shield this week according to Psalm 5:12! Everywhere I go, favour goes ahead of me. Every room I walk into, favour has already prepared my reception. Every person I need to influence, favour has already softened their heart toward me, in Jesus’ name!
17. I pray for one specific favour breakthrough this week that changes the trajectory of my situation. Lord, let one door open this week that makes this week different from every week before it. One phone call. One meeting. One open door. One unexpected yes where I had been receiving no, in Jesus’ name!
18. Father, let this be a week of new beginnings for every area of my life that has been stagnant. Where I have been in the same place for too long, let this Monday be the first day of a new and better chapter. Let the stagnation break this week. Let the next level begin this week, in Jesus’ name!
19. I pray for supernatural connections this week. Let me meet the right person at the right time with the right conversation that shifts my professional, personal or spiritual life significantly. Like Ruth meeting Boaz, let my divine connection for this season show up in my week, in Jesus’ name!
20. Father, let this week produce something I will still be talking about by Friday. Let it contain at least one unmistakable evidence of Your hand at work in my life. Let it carry one moment where I look back and say: that was God. That could not have been anyone or anything else, in Jesus’ name!

| ADMONITION BEFORE YOU PRAY: Romans 8:37 does not say you will be a conqueror by the end of the week if things go well. It says you are more than a conqueror through Him who loved you. Present tense. Before the week starts. Before the battles of the week have been fought. Before the challenges have materialised. You are already more than a conqueror. 1 Corinthians 15:57 adds: thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. He gives it. Past tense. The victory for this week’s battles was given to you at the cross of Jesus Christ before this week began. What you are doing in Monday morning prayer is not begging God for victory. You are taking possession of a victory that has already been provided. Step into this week not as someone hoping to survive but as someone who has already been given the victory. Walk and pray like it. |
Prayer Points 21 to 25
21. I declare: I am more than a conqueror this week through Christ who loves me according to Romans 8:37! Not a survivor. Not a victim. Not someone who is hoping to get through. More than a conqueror. I go into this week with the victory of Christ already active over every battle this week contains, in Jesus’ name!
22. Thanks be to God who gives me the victory through my Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57)! The victory for this week’s challenges has already been given. I receive it now, before the challenges arrive. And I will give God the glory for it on Sunday when I look back and count the victories, in Jesus’ name!
23. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me according to Philippians 4:13! Every task this week that feels too big, every challenge that looks too difficult and every assignment that appears beyond my natural capacity, I can do it. Not in my own strength but through Christ who is my strength, in Jesus’ name!
24. I seal this week against every plan of the enemy! No weapon formed against my week shall prosper. No satanic agenda for any day of this week shall succeed. I have committed this week to God. He has established my plans. And no power in heaven, earth or hell can undo what God has set in place, in Jesus’ name!
25. Father, I close this Monday morning prayer with a declaration of complete trust in You: this week is in Your hands. Every surprise it holds, every challenge it brings, every door it opens and every moment it contains is known to You before I face any of it. You are already in my Tuesday. You are already in my Thursday. You are already in my weekend. And You are good. So this week will be good. Not because everything will go perfectly, but because You are in every moment of it. I step into this week in faith, in confidence and in joy. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ. AMEN!

I cancel every form of Monday dread and I receive Monday faith instead. I am not going into this week as a victim. I am going in as more than a conqueror. Every day this week is loaded with God’s mercy, God’s favour and God’s divine appointments. Something new is springing up in my life this week. | Why is Monday specifically important spiritually? Monday is the first day of the week in most cultures and as such it sets the spiritual temperature for everything that follows. The principle of firstfruits in Scripture is instructive here: when you give God the first and best portion of something, it sanctifies the whole. Exodus 23:19 says bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the Lord your God. When you bring God the firstfruits of your week by praying on Monday morning before anything else, you are applying the firstfruits principle to your time. What you give to God first, He sanctifies entirely. What if Monday is my day off or I do not work on Mondays? The principle of consecrating the first day of your week to God applies regardless of what your Monday schedule looks like. If Monday is your rest day, pray these prayers and rest in the peace of God rather than the anxiety of the week ahead. If Monday is a non-work day for you, use these prayers to set the spiritual direction of your personal activities, family time and recreational choices for the week. God governs every dimension of your life, not just your professional one. I often feel spiritually low on Monday mornings. How do I pray when I do not feel like it? Mark 1:35 says Jesus rose very early in the morning while it was still dark and went to pray. The text does not say He felt like it. What overcame His flesh was not a feeling but a discipline rooted in an understanding of necessity. Psalm 5:3 says David laid his requests before God in the morning and waited expectantly. He did not wait until he felt spiritually ready to pray. He prayed first and expectation followed the prayer. Begin your Monday morning prayer with honesty: Lord, I do not feel like praying today. Help me. That is already a prayer. Should I pray for specific things on Monday or just a general blessing over the week? Both have value and the most effective Monday morning prayer combines them. The general blessing covers everything you have not thought of or do not yet know about your week. The specific prayer targets the known challenges, appointments and needs of the week ahead. Look at your calendar before you pray. Name the specific meetings, the specific challenges and the specific people you need God to move through in the week ahead. Specific prayer produces specific testimonies. Can I pray these prayers on behalf of my family? Absolutely and you should. Joshua 24:15 records Joshua’s declaration: as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Joshua was not only speaking for himself. He was standing as the spiritual head of his household and making a covenant declaration that covered everyone under his roof. When you pray Monday morning prayers that cover your spouse, your children and your household, you are fulfilling the same interceding and covering role that Joshua fulfilled. |
Monday Is Not Your Enemy. It Is Your Opportunity.
Genesis 1:1 says in the beginning God created. And Genesis 1:3 says on the first day God spoke light into darkness. The very first creative act of God happened at the beginning of the first day of the first week. Monday, the first day of your week, carries the same creative potential. It is the day when God desires to speak something new into the darkness of your situation, to begin something fresh in an area that has been formless and empty and to bring light into a circumstance that has felt like night.
But Genesis 1 also reveals that God created sequentially and purposefully. Each day built on the previous one. What God started on the first day, He developed over the days that followed. Your Monday prayer is the day-one moment of your week. What you consecrate to God on Monday, He develops through Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and beyond. By the time you reach Sunday, you will be able to look back at a week that God built, day by day, into something that reflects His glory.
Do not let Monday happen to you. Go into Monday with God. Pray before the alarm loses its novelty. Pray before the notifications demand your attention. Give God the first word of your Monday and trust Him to have the last word of your week.
