Worship in the Waiting Room
Nothing has changed yet. The fig tree hasn’t budded, the fields are still empty, and you’re sitting in the exact same waiting room you were in last week, with no clearer picture of when it ends. Worship feels like the last thing that makes sense right now.
Habakkuk chose it anyway.
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food… yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” — Habakkuk 3:17–18 (NIV)
The One Point:
Habakkuk lists the failures first, deliberately, without softening them. Nothing about his circumstances had improved by the time he writes this. His worship isn’t a response to good news, it’s a decision made in spite of the absence of it. That reorders what worship actually is, not primarily gratitude for what’s already happened, but trust extended toward who God is, regardless of what the fields currently look like. Worship in the waiting room isn’t pretending the waiting doesn’t hurt. It’s choosing to direct your attention toward God even while the waiting continues, unresolved.
Thought to Ponder:
What empty field are you currently standing in, and what would it look like to worship God there, honestly, without waiting for the harvest to change first?
Prayer:
Father, nothing has changed yet, and I choose to worship You anyway.
Let my joy come from who You are, not from my circumstances.
Meet me in this waiting room with Your presence. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“I will rejoice in God, even while I’m still waiting for the harvest.”
Today’s Step:
Name one specific area where nothing has changed yet, and worship God deliberately in that exact area today, out loud, without waiting for the circumstances to shift first.
