The Cost of Isolation

You’ve gotten efficient at handling things alone. Nobody to disappoint, nobody to explain yourself to, nobody to let down if it falls apart. It feels safer this way. It also feels, if you’re honest, quietly exhausting in a way you can’t quite name.

“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 (NIV)

The One Point:
Solomon isn’t romanticizing relationships here, he’s being practical about a real cost. Isolation doesn’t just feel lonely, it removes the very thing that catches you when you fall, and everyone eventually falls at something. Self-sufficiency can look like strength from the outside while quietly leaving you without anyone positioned to help when you actually need it. This isn’t a guilt trip about needing people, it’s an honest observation: the version of you that lets people in isn’t weaker than the version that handles everything alone, it’s simply better positioned for the moment falling becomes unavoidable.

Thought to Ponder:
Where have you been handling something alone that was never meant to be carried without anyone else close enough to help?

Prayer:
Father, forgive me for treating isolation as strength.
Show me who You’ve placed near me to help carry what I’ve been carrying alone.
Give me the courage to let someone in. Amen.

Today’s Declaration:
“I don’t have to fall alone. God has placed people near me to help.”

Today’s Step:
Reach out to one person today and let them in on something you’ve been quietly handling by yourself, even if it feels uncomfortable.
