Rest Isn’t Weakness
You’ve been calling it laziness. That afternoon you actually sat still. The evening you said no to one more thing. The morning you slept later than you’d planned. Somewhere along the way, rest got filed under failure instead of faithfulness.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.” – Psalm 23:2–3 (NIV)
The One Point:
Notice who’s doing the action in this verse. The shepherd makes the sheep lie down, sheep left to themselves will often keep grazing anxiously, even past the point of exhaustion, unless someone leads them to actually stop. Rest here isn’t something you have to earn permission for or apologize about. It’s something a good shepherd builds into the care of the flock, because refreshed souls aren’t a luxury, they’re necessary for whatever comes next. Choosing to rest isn’t opting out of faithfulness. It’s often exactly what faithfulness requires.
Thought to Ponder:
What have you been calling laziness that might actually be the rest your soul genuinely needs right now?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for leading me to rest, not just to labor.
Refresh what has been running on empty.
Help me receive rest as care, not failure. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“Rest is not weakness. It is how God refreshes my soul.”
Today’s Step:
Choose one specific block of time today to genuinely stop, no screen, no task, and let it be rest without guilt attached to it.
Further Study:
Mark 6:31 (Come with me by yourselves and get some rest)
Exodus 20:8–10 (The Sabbath as a command, not a suggestion)
