Peace Is Not the Absence of Problems

Nothing about your situation has actually changed since last night. The bill is still due. The diagnosis still stands. The relationship is still strained. And yet you’re being asked to walk into today with peace, as if the circumstances themselves were supposed to shift first.
They weren’t.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
The One Point:
Paul wrote this from prison, not from a season when everything had resolved. Notice the peace described here doesn’t come after the problem is solved, it comes through prayer, in the middle of the problem still standing. That’s why it’s called peace that transcends understanding, it doesn’t make logical sense given the circumstances, because it was never sourced from the circumstances in the first place. Peace isn’t the reward for a fixed situation. It’s what becomes available the moment you actually bring the situation to God instead of carrying it alone.
Thought to Ponder:
What are you waiting to feel peaceful about until it’s resolved, that you could instead bring honestly to God right now, unresolved?
Prayer:
Father, my circumstances haven’t changed, but I’m bringing them to You anyway.
Guard my heart and mind the way only You can.
Let peace stand even where the problem still stands. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“My peace doesn’t wait for my problem to be solved.”
Today’s Step:
Name one unresolved situation out loud in prayer today, specifically, and thank God for one thing in the middle of it before asking for anything else.
