Loved Even in the Mess

You keep waiting to clean yourself up before you let God close. The bad habit still isn’t broken. The temper still flares. The thing you’re ashamed of is still true this morning, exactly as it was yesterday. Somewhere along the way, you decided love had to wait for improvement first.

God’s timing on this one is different.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8 (NIV)

The One Point:
Notice the timing Paul insists on here, while we were still sinners, not after cleanup, not once the mess was sorted out. This is the opposite of love that has to be earned through improvement first. Christ didn’t wait for you to become lovable before dying for you, the love came first, in the middle of exactly what you’re ashamed of right now. That doesn’t mean the mess doesn’t matter or that change isn’t real. It means you don’t have to fix yourself before you’re allowed near God. He’s already close, in the actual mess, not just in the cleaned-up version you’re still working toward.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me while I was still in the mess.
I bring You exactly what I am today, not a cleaned-up version.
Let Your love meet me here, not just where I hope to be. Amen.

Today’s Declaration:
“God loved me in the mess. I don’t have to clean up first to come close.”

Today’s Step:
Bring the specific thing you’ve been hiding from God into prayer today, honestly, without waiting until it’s fixed first.
