Doubt Isn’t Disqualifying

You believe, mostly. Some days more than others. And there’s a part of you that assumes real faith shouldn’t have this much uncertainty mixed into it, that genuine belief would feel more solid than what you’re actually carrying most mornings.

A father standing in front of Jesus said the truest thing anyone in Scripture ever said about faith.

“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’” -Mark 9:24 (NIV)

The One Point:
Jesus doesn’t require this man to resolve his doubt before receiving help, He responds to the honest, mixed statement exactly as it was, belief and unbelief both present in the same sentence, and still moves toward him. That’s significant. Doubt isn’t the opposite of faith, it often exists right alongside it, and honestly naming both isn’t a disqualifying admission, it’s actually closer to the truth than pretending your faith has no cracks in it. You don’t need certainty before God will meet you. You need honesty, even honesty that includes the doubt you’re ashamed to admit.

Thought to Ponder:
What doubt have you been hiding because you assumed admitting it would disqualify you from being taken seriously by God?

Prayer:
Father, I believe, and I also carry real doubt, both are true.
Help me overcome my unbelief, without needing to hide it from You first.
Meet me in the honest mixture of my faith. Amen.

Today’s Declaration:
“I believe, and I bring my doubt honestly to God, both at once.”

Today’s Step:
Say the father’s prayer from Mark 9:24 out loud today, exactly as written, naming both your belief and your doubt honestly.
