Made for a Purpose, Not Just a Function
You’ve gotten good at doing the job. Showing up, completing the task, meeting the deadline. Somewhere in the process, though, the actual person doing it started to feel replaceable, like the function is all that matters and you just happen to be the one currently performing it.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
The One Point:
Paul doesn’t describe you as a generic worker filling a generic slot. He describes you as handiwork, something specifically made, and the good works prepared for you were prepared in advance, meaning they were shaped with you specifically in mind, not assigned randomly to whoever happened to be available. That distinction matters. A function can be performed by anyone. A purpose was actually prepared for you. You’re not just completing tasks that could be handed to someone else, you’re walking into work that God specifically shaped for the person He made you to be.
Thought to Ponder:
Where have you started treating your role as just a function that anyone could fill, rather than a purpose specifically prepared for you?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me Your handiwork, not just a function.
Remind me that the work in front of me was prepared specifically for me.
Help me see purpose where I’ve only been seeing tasks. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“I am God’s handiwork. My work today was prepared specifically for me.”
Today’s Step:
Look at one task on your list today and ask God to show you the purpose behind it, not just the function, before you complete it.
