What God Sees That Others Miss
You know exactly how you come across on paper. The resume that doesn’t quite impress. The personality that gets overlooked in the room. The version of you that people size up in five seconds and move on from.
Samuel almost made that same mistake, standing in front of Jesse’s sons.
“The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
The One Point:
Samuel was ready to anoint the tallest, most impressive-looking son standing in front of him, exactly the kind of candidate people naturally choose. God redirected him entirely, past six older brothers, to the youngest one still out in the field with the sheep, the one nobody else considered worth calling in first. What people size up in five seconds was never the actual measure God was using. He was already looking at something no one else in that room could see. Whatever gets overlooked about you in a quick glance, isn’t necessarily what God is evaluating at all.
Thought to Ponder:
What has been consistently overlooked or underestimated about you by others, that God might actually be looking at completely differently?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for seeing what others overlook in me.
Help me stop measuring myself by outward appearance alone.
Let me trust that You see my heart, not just what’s visible. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“God sees my heart, not just what others notice on the surface.”
Today’s Step:
Name one thing about yourself you believe gets overlooked by others, and thank God specifically for seeing it and valuing it today.
