The Danger of Needing Everyone’s Approval
You rewrote that message four times before sending it. Not because the content was unclear, but because you were calculating exactly how it would land, whether they’d still like you afterward, whether saying the true thing was worth the risk of their disapproval.
It’s exhausting, living like everyone’s opinion of you is a verdict you have to keep winning.
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” — Galatians 1:10 (NIV)
The One Point:
Paul isn’t describing basic kindness or consideration here, he’s naming a specific trap: letting people’s approval become the thing that governs your choices instead of God’s actual call on your life. Those two masters genuinely can’t be served at the same time. Trying to please everyone eventually means abandoning whatever’s true or right the moment it risks someone’s disapproval. This isn’t permission to be careless with people’s feelings. It’s a warning about handing them the authority that only belongs to God, the power to define whether you’re doing well.
Thought to Ponder:
Whose approval have you been quietly living for, in a way that’s starting to shape decisions that should belong to you and God alone?
Prayer:
Father, forgive me for needing approval that only You have the right to give.
Free me from performing for people instead of serving You.
Help me care about people without needing to be ruled by them. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“I am a servant of Christ, not a performer for people’s approval.”
Today’s Step:
Notice one decision today where you’re tempted to choose based on what will keep someone’s approval, and choose instead based on what’s actually true or right.
