When You Don’t Feel Ready
You’ve been asked to do something, and every part of you wants to say “send someone else.” Not because you’re unwilling, but because you genuinely don’t feel equipped. The words won’t come out right. The skill isn’t there yet. The confidence certainly isn’t.
Moses said it outright, standing in front of a burning bush.
“Moses said to the LORD, ‘Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent… I am slow of speech and tongue.’ The LORD said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths?… Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’” – Exodus 4:10–12 (NIV)
The One Point:
God doesn’t argue with Moses about whether the objection is true. Moses likely was slow of speech, that part isn’t disputed. What God disputes is the conclusion Moses drew from it, that his inadequacy disqualified him from the assignment. Feeling unready is not the same as being unequipped by God. Sometimes the very thing you feel most lacking in is exactly where God intends to show up most clearly, not because your weakness became strength on its own, but because His help was never contingent on your readiness in the first place.
Thought to Ponder:
What has God asked of you that you’ve been avoiding, not because you doubt Him, but because you doubt yourself?
Prayer:
Father, I don’t feel ready for what You’re asking of me.
I bring You my honest inadequacy, not a confidence I don’t have.
Help me obey anyway, trusting You to supply what I lack. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“I don’t have to feel ready. God supplies what I lack.”
Today’s Step:
Take one small step today toward the thing you’ve been avoiding because you don’t feel equipped, and ask God specifically for help with the exact part that scares you most.
