What Waiting Is Actually For
Nothing is happening. That’s the worst part.
Not a crisis you can fight, not a clear next step you can take, just the slow, uneventful middle of waiting for something that hasn’t come yet. The job hasn’t opened up. The healing hasn’t finished. The relationship hasn’t clarified. And the waiting itself starts to feel like wasted time.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” -Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)
The One Point:
This verse doesn’t say every season feels productive or even makes sense while you’re in it. It says every season has a time, meaning the waiting itself is a season, not an interruption of the real seasons. Something is happening in you during the waiting, even when nothing visible is happening around you. Trees grow roots deeper during seasons that produce no fruit you can see yet. Waiting isn’t the absence of God’s work. It’s often the specific shape His work is taking right now, even when it looks like nothing at all.
Thought to Ponder:
What if the waiting you’re in isn’t delaying God’s work, but is God’s work right now, in a form you haven’t recognized yet?
Prayer:
Father, this waiting feels like wasted time, but I don’t think it is to You.
Help me trust what You’re doing that I cannot yet see.
Grow something in me while I wait for what’s ahead. Amen.
Today’s Declaration:
“My waiting season is not empty. God is at work in it.”
Today’s Step:
Name one thing you’ve grown in during this waiting season, patience, honesty with God, dependence, anything real, even if the actual thing you’re waiting for hasn’t arrived yet.
